The mods you apply to them determine their models( e.g Modding a T-45 may give you a T-45a ).

You'll need all three to get anywhere. You can even apply different Mods to Power Armor at any Power Armor Station found throughout the Commonwealth to upgrade their base stats. Power Armor is composed of three elements – a frame, six individual modules (four limbs, torso and head), and a fusion core to power it. Power Armor can be damaged, and needs frequent repairs.) You can sneak and fast travel while in Power Armor. While wearing Power Armor you lose any bonuses from other armor items. You are even immune to fall damage while wearing the suit. But you are still able to sprint and jump and buildings can also be entered easily while wearing it. While wearing Power Armor your carry weight and resistances are much higher but you move more slowly. If you have another Fusion Core in your inventory when depleting the current one, the Power Armor will automatically consume it. When a Fusion Core is depleted, you may continue to use the Power Armor in a slower state. It requires great Strength in order to be able to use and needs a Fusion Core to power it. *I mean only the version where you have cybernetic brain, any other brain you can rank them as 4.Power Armor is Armor in Fallout 4 that is an energized suit. Myron and Lenny: they are useless in combat, their main use is their skills which is outside of combat, but only Myron is of any real benefit, while Lenny's is just bad. Marcus and Robobrain*: these are not strictly bad, but they move so damn slowly that unless you are in a random encounter or if the map is broken into several "sections", they are very likely to be out of position when combat actually starts, which would often take them several turns to even engage in combat. The overall complete lack of melee/unarmed only protection and Fallout's turn based combat mechanics makes ranged combat strictly superior to melee combat in basically every case I am aware of. You should always strive to take advantage of your opponent's combat style, not let them take advantage of yours. Goris, K-9, Robodog and Dogmeat all suffer from the exact same problem: they are all melee only companions, cannot wear power armor, which makes them susceptible to melee based critters and hostile NPCs that use burst fire weapons, since these NPC's combat style and their lack of armor is absolutely ideal for these critters to take advantage of. The others have several disadvantages that either make them really clunky to use or outright useless.
